Hemant Pendse received his early training in music from Manohar Betavadkar. Later he became a disciple of the eminent vocalist and composer Jitendra Abhisheki, living with him like a member of the family from 1978 to 1990. A popular vocalist, his performances have been well received at prestigious festivals like the Sawai Gandharva Music Festival and the Chintamani Sangeet Mahotsav in Pune. He is also associated with the Lalit Kala Kendra or Centre for Performing Arts of the Pune University as a "Manad Guru". He has received several awards including the Pt. Jasraj Gaurav Puruskar in 1997.
