Gulubhai Jasdanwalla

Gulubhai Jasdanwalla belonged to a family of businessmen and was known for breeding the best race horses. But he was highly respected in the world of classical music for his vast collection of rare and complex raags and bandishes of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana.

Jasdanwalla received his training in the Jaipur-Atrauli gayaki from Manji Khan, the second son of Alladiya Khan, the fountainhead of this gharana. After the untimely death of Manji Khan in 1937, Alladiya Khan taught Jasdanwalla and handed down several rare raags and bandishes.

Jasdanwalla never aspired to be a performer, but many from the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana and even those belonging to other gharanas, benefitted from his vast repertoire.
