An accomplished classical singer, Kalpana carries the rich heritage of the respected vocalist Rajab Ali Khan Saheb through her father and guru Krishnarao (Mamasaheb) Mujumdar. Born in Indore, Kalpana has passed her M.A. in music securing a gold medal. She has the rare honour of receiving a gold medal in light classical music and silver medal in light music in he same year in the AIR competitions an at early age. These have been followed by numerous awards and honours over the past 30 years of concert performances. Besides intensive training in khayal gayaki under her father, she has taken guidance from (Late) Dr. Sushila Pohankar & (Late) V. U. Rajurkar in other music forms. She renders Khayal as well as Thumri, Tappa, Dadra, Hori, Kajri, Jhoola, Natyasangeet, Abhang & Bhajan with equal authority. During her musical journey of over 40 years, Kalpana has won many awards. Over the years she has been bestowed with many Puraskars and Sammans including the prestigious and the first ever Smt. Vatsala Bhimsen Joshi Puraskar, Smt. Krishna Hangal National Award, Madhya Pradesh Gaurav Puraskar, Prasar Bharti’s Kala Sadhana Samman and many more. Kalpana is actively associated with several organizations promoting music and is an office bearer in Abhinav Kala Samaj, Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Samaroh, Mama Saheb Music Foundation etc. She has several albums of classical, semi-classical and light music which find place in the connoisseurs of music. Kalpana has also been teaching classical and other forms of music in the Guru-Shishya Parampara & has a number of disciples, some of them are now performing in their own right. Kalpana has performed in almost all prominent music festivals held all over the country.
