The seasons have for long been closely associated with Indian art music, and Varsha, or the monsoon has for ages inspired a wealth of poetry and music. Vocalist Shubha Mudgal has drawn on some unusual song texts that offer varied perceptions of Varsha Ritu. Some of these verses have been rendered as khayal compositions, while others are in the thumri-dadra style. This repertoire is also available in the album Sangeet Sartaj Voume II, published by Music Today.
