Qawwali is a recognised musical genre in the Indian subcontinent . It shares general traits with the light classical music of North India & Pakistan, but has unique characteristics related to its religious function. This book is an attempt to apply to Qawwali an ethnomusicological approach which incorporates the dimension of context into the analysis of musical sound.
