Ajoy Chakraborty

A leading exponent of the Patiala gharana, Ajoy Chakraborty was initiated into music by his father Ajit Chakraborty. Later he was trained by Kanai Das Bairagi and Gyan Prakash Ghosh. He also became a disciple of Munawwar Ali Khan, son and disciple of the renowned vocalist Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.

Equally adept at Khayal, Thumri, Nazrul Geet and other forms, Ajoy Chakraborty is the recipient of numerous awards. He currently guides students of music at Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata and also heads Shrutinandan, a music institution founded by him. He tours extensively in the country and abroad and has many albums to his credit.
