Sandy Evans

Sandy Evans is an Australian saxophonist and composer resident in Sydney. She specialises in tenor and soprano saxophone and has a passion for jazz improvisation and new music. Through the inspiration and guidance of renowned mridangam player Kaaraikkudi Mani, BV Balasai, Adrian Sherriff and Sarangan Sriranganathan she has pursued her dream to learn about Indian music and to explore bridges for improvisers between Indian music and jazz.

Sandy performs with the Sandy Evans Trio and Sextet, The catholics, the Australian Art Orchestra, MARA! Ten Part Invention, Bobby Singh, austraLYSIS,  SNAP, Waratah, GEST8 and Kim Sanders. Sandy has won many Awards including an OAM, AIR Best Independent Jazz Record 2011, Australian Jazz Musician of The Year 2003, and 3 ARIAs.

In addition to the significant body of works she has composed for her own ensembles Sandy has composed major works for groups like the Australian Art Orchestra (Testimony about the life and music of Charlie Parker) and Sydney Children’s Choir.
