An experienced and much sought-after percussionist in the world of film music, Pratap Rath began as a tabla player. He had his initial training in tabla from Manikrao Popatkar, but he decided to acquire skills at playing a variety of percussion instruments soon after he joined the studio sessions for film music. Having had the privilege of recording with some of India’s best known music directors, Pratap Rath is equally at home when in a live concert situation. His collection of percussion instruments from India and across the world reflects his constant search for new sounds and textures, and his desire to experiment with instruments by adapting them to his musical requirement.
While his musicianship has been showcased in several films and albums, Pratap Rath is the main performer on the album entitled Tarana-e-Percussion, composed and conceptualised by tabla player and composer Aneesh Pradhan. The album is released on the Underscore Records label.
